Continuing the series of retrospectives, let’s take a look at year 2023.
While in a global, geopolitical sense the year was just as bad as 2022 (at least from my perspective), from the modelling standpoint it was actually fairly good.
On the surface of it, I only completed two models. But it’s the model that count, not the total number.
HMS Terror
I’m delighted that the dreaded HMS Terror is finally finished! It was always bothering me that the model is not yet complete after all the years, and mentally blocked me from working on other big protects, like HMS Flirt.
Now that it’s done and put safely under the display case, I’m happily working on Flirt and planning other big things. Right before the year turned I was on the verge of finishing the second layer planking for Flirt, with the build progressing swiftly.

A very pleasant palate cleanser that gave me a quick win, improved the look of HMS Terror and restored my sanity after all the mind-numbing rigging.
HMS Flirt
Started this one in November, quite happy with the progress made this year. In just two months I was done with the planking, and for the modern kits like this one it is what takes most of the time, simply because the rest is laser-cut.
But most importantly it is great to finally be able to work on this model that I had in stash for years, and which was blocked by the never ending HMS Terror slog.
Conclusion
I’m happy to report that I seem to have learned to successfully disconnect from the horrors of the world by working on the models, and it definitely helps with my mental health.
